In the summer of 2016 we went to Lisbon, Portugal to participate in the Lisbon Music Fest. This festival ran throughout July and August and features youth orchestras and choirs from around the world performing in various venues in Lisbon.
The orchestra had a great opportunity to explore Lisbon and the surrounding towns, in the excitement after Portugal’s Euro 2016 win. The beautiful Palacio Foz, the former royal palace of the Palacio da Ajuda and the Unfinished Chapel of the Batalha Monastery were spectacular venues for the three concerts and the 27 young musicians, along with their musical director Anne Moriarty-Martin, show-cased the great musical talent of Mayo with a variety of classical pieces, film themes, rock songs and traditional Irish music to enthusiastic audiences.
